Tips on Avoiding Spam Filters So You
Get the Email You Want to Receive
by John Kremer
Apparently some of our readers have ceased getting John Kremer's Book Marketing Tip of the
Week because their sensitive spam detectors have filtered it out.
Different service providers, email programs, and employers use varied methods to try and keep you from being overwhelmed by spam.
Unfortunately, some of these methods occasionally mistake email that you've opted to receive for spam. If you suspect that our newsletter
is being caught by your spam filter, here are some things you can try to rectify the situation:
- Add our from address (johnkremer@bookmarket.com)
to your address book. Some service providers, such as AOL and MSN, make exceptions to all their spam rules for any email address in a
personal address book.
- AOL and MSN don't display HTML in email from unknown senders by default. You can change your default to display HTML, if they
allow you to do this.
- Also some email programs, by default, don't display HTML. If you have trouble reading our HTML emails, chances are that your
email program defaults to text email only. You can change this in your email program.
- Some email providers or Internet service providers have white lists of approved senders. If putting our from address in your
address book does not work, then you might check to see if your email provider uses a white list.
- Talk to your email administrators or providers to see if they have installed any new spam filters or security protocols. They
may be able to make exceptions to their spam rules or suggest adjustments that you can make to the security settings on your
computer which will allow you to continue to receive our newsletter.
- If you continue to have trouble receiving our newsletter, send us an email that includes your email address and the date you last
received the newsletter you are registered to receive.
Keep the following things in mind as well and let us know if they apply to you:
- If your inbox was over its size limit for several days and you were not receiving our newsletter, you may need to call us and
have us revalidate your email address.
- On rare occasions AOL and other service providers will stop you from getting all email sent out by one company (such as
SparkList, the email service we use) when you ask to be unsubscribed from a single mailing list serviced by that company.
If you use AOL and have recently unsubscribed from another newsletter or other type of mailing list, please let us know when
you contact us for help reinstating your subscription.
