One author's success story: Local TV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robbie Lee, author of Straight Man's Pocket Guide to Picking Up a Hottie,
wrote the following note to me. Check out what she did to get on her
local Fox TV station:
Your book recommends making contacts every day. So I never miss a
chance to put my card advertising my book somewhere when I can!
I saw a Fox station reporter van one day in my neighborhood and put
one on their wind shield. They gave it to an Executive Producer who
produces a segment called “pillow talk” during the news in the morning
and they invited me on to talk about my book. Thanks for your inspiration.
You can check out my appearance on my local Fox station on YouTube:
And thanks to you, I have a positive response from MTV for a reality TV
show submittal that I am working on!!! Your book rocks!
BookRix.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BookRix.com is a new social networking website that allows authors to
share new books, booklets, comics, etc. with other authors and readers.
You can have your books reviewed and even distributed via embedding
on other websites. Could be an interesting venue. Check it out.
The Versatile Freelancer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you’re a skilled creative pro (as most book authors are), you can
share your knowledge and experience—and get paid for it. Many people
have successfully diversified into critiquing, consulting, training, and
presenting. The opportunities and rewards are terrific. Earn more money,
build your reputation, win applause and acclaim. It’s an easy, risk-free
strategy. This could be the best career decision of your life! In a new
e-book, The Versatile Freelancer, my long-time friend Don Hauptman,
an expert copywriter who has done it all, tells you everything you need
to know to diversify your income stream. For details, go to:
Sample of a great testimonial
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's a nice little testimonial I received this week from Dr. Brian Bolstad.
I enjoyed his words and thought you might, too.
You have been a big help. Without the advice I got reading your book
I probably never would have made the effort. Just the tax saving ideas
that sprang from reading 1000 Ways will put one of my kids through
college and with a little luck, book and video sales will take care of the
other. Pat yourself on the back. Not everyone's work has socially
redeeming value.
Imagine Nation Books
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is some more info from Tim McCormick, Senior Buyer at Imagine
Nation Book:
Our company continues to grow and we continue to search for books
from small publishers. We will purchase about 90 titles in the next 12
months in quantities of 30,000 to 60,000 units and another 90 titles in
quantities of 3,000 to 10,000 copies. In a 12 month buying process we
will review well over 20,000 new titles and from that we may test
around 900 titles (or more) to find our 180 production titles. I focus
on gifts, toys, gadgets and books. There are several buyers that focus
on large publishers but my focus is on smaller independent publishers.
Your subscribers are welcome to submit their books to me. I have been
in the small publisher world for 13 years now and have always supported
the smaller publishers. I would not suggest they send their books to Earl
in Boulder. That may work for one in a million but it is not the most
efficient way to approach INB. As you can imagine, Earl has his hands
full with the overall operation of the company and he hires people like
me to handle the buying. If a book works for our market I can assure
you Earl will see it. I generally try and send an email to the publishers
within a day or two from when I receive their submission to let them
know if we are interested or not. I think they appreciate the quick
feedback. If I am traveling it can take up to two weeks depending on
how long I am traveling. I do look at every book submitted.
