Tell Your Friends widget
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you'd like to encourage people to recommend your website, video,
blog, etc. to their friends, here's a widget you can use that's hosted by
http://tellafriend.socialtwist.com/index.jsp. Check it out.
Mouse over either graphic below to recommend BookMarket.com to
your friends via email, instant messaging, your blog, or social networks.
It's a neat technology, and it's free! At least for now.
The image on the right above is one of their standard Tell a Friend
buttons. The image on the left is a photo of me combined with a Tell
a Friend button that I created using a simple photo software program.
Again, you can create your own free Tell a Friend widget by going to:
http://tellafriend.socialtwist.com/index.jsp
Using such a widget can dramatically increase your pass-along factor
and overall traffic as visitors send emails to their friends recommending
your website, blog, or other online event.
If you have written a novel set in North Carolina, be sure to contact
Literary NC, a website that currently offers 18 tours that take people
to the front porches, general stores, river banks, and graveyards made
vivid in books by 170+ writers.
The website (http://www.ncliterarytrails.org), tours, and related books
are produced by the North Carolina Arts Council, MSC #4632,
North Carolina. Get on their one of their tours!
If you live in or write about another state, check out the state arts
council to find out who or what organization might be offering similar
tours in your state.
Great customer service video
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's a great customer service video with lots and lots of heart. You
will like it: http://www.stservicemovie.com
It's also a great example of a viral video that actually goes viral. In my
Ten Million Eyeballs online marketing course, I teach you how to create
such viral videos and how to propagate them effectively.
How to make money as an affiliate marketer via videos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you're looking for additional ways to support your writing habit :)),
check out the following video on How to Make Money Fast as an
Affiliate Marketer in as Little as an Hour, Even if You Are on a Shoestring
Budget (also known as the Social Media Money Magnet).
Mike Koenigs originally taught this system in Singapore to an audience
of Internet newbies. Some of his students used his system and made
over $300 in less than 3 hours after they started.
Now he's giving this system away in a 30-minute video you can watch
for free. Check it out: http://www.bookmarket.com/socialmedia.htm
Specialty retailers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are some more specialty retailers. As I noted last week, here are
some things you can do when contacting specialty retailers.
First, if I had a book that would be a perfect match for one of the
specialty retailers listed in this newsletter, I'd send them a flyer telling
them why they should be stocking my book and how/where they can
get it.
Second, if they didn't place an order within a few weeks, I'd send them
another letter or make a follow-up phone call.
I would rarely send them a copy of the book. If they asked for one copy,
I might send it, but I think a good flyer or letter does as good a job of
selling a book as the book itself. Indeed, a well-written flyer or letter
often does a better job of selling.

Bestseller (or Not) Blog
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steve Eunpu, a member of the Self-Publishing Hall of Fame, is currently
promoting a new book, The Stress Eater Diet. As part of his promotion,
he is writing a blog to share a behind-the-scenes look at the steps he
is taking in developing and marketing the book. He'll share his successes
and failures, what works and what doesn't. It should be an interesting
experiment. You can follow his progress in marketing the book at
Google Friend Connect
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Google now offers a free tool that allows you to begin featuring social
networking tools on any website, blog, or single web page. You can
check out a sample of the tool on my Quotable Books website at:
http://www.quotablebooks.com/bests.htm
On that page, I allow people to sign up as a member of that page and
also to rate the quotations on that page. Now, so far I've only set it up
for that one page, but I could put the same code on other pages to expand the social network.
