Free speech is alive in book publishing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I received a number of tweets freaking out that I mentioned Glenn
Beck in a tweet -- even though the tweet was focused on his success
in writing books. I thought the tweet focused on two good points about
the news story this tweet came from: 1. Free speech is alive in book
publishing. We publish all points of view. 2. Books are still making money.
One person wrote: BECK - YIKES - this scares me.
Another wrote: John - that's a scary commentary.
Why does this scare people? Have they ever watched Glenn Beck's TV
show? I've been watching Beck for the past few weeks, and he is one
of the most reasonable people on TV or radio. I don't know how he is
on his radio show, but his TV show covers a lot of history, reasonable
arguments, and very few rants (some guilt by association).
I find Glenn a lot easier to listen to than Randi Rhodes, who yells at her
listeners every day, cuts them off, tries to talk over them. Ed Schultz
does the same thing. I like Thom Hartmann a whole lot better. And miss
Ron Reagan. All four are or were radio hosts featured on KVOT (the
local Taos progressive radio station).
I'm all for free speech. And I encourage anyone to listen to all points
of view and not shut out people simply because they are accused of
bias or extremism. Judge for yourself by really listening.
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
